Daniel 7:9,10,13,14

As I looked,

‘thrones were set in place,
and the Ancient of Days took his seat.
His clothing was as white as snow;
the hair of his head was white like wool.
His throne was flaming with fire,
and its wheels were all ablaze.

A river of fire was flowing,

coming out from before him.

Thousands upon thousands attended him;

ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him.

The court was seated,

and the books were opened.

‘In my vision at night I looked, and there before me was one like a son of man, coming with the clouds of heaven. He approached the Ancient of Days and was led into his presence.

He was given authority, glory and sovereign power; all nations and peoples of every language worshipped him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that will not pass away, and his kingdom is one that will never be destroyed.

In 165 BC, Israel was ruled by a crazy, powerful Syrian king, who saw himself as Zeus revealed. He took over the temple in Jerusalem, set up an altar to Zeus, sacrificed a pig there, and desecrated the temple by scattering pig blood all over it. He banned worship of the God of Israel, and threatened people with death if they owned any Torah scrolls. Into this dangerous time, the Book of Daniel appears, to encourage the suffering faithful not to give up. The vision of one ‘like a son of man’ was vital for Jesus. He took that title for himself. He saw himself as the person who was living out the experience of God’s suffering people. He saw himself as the holy one who totally entrusted himself into his Father’s hands, and in so doing brought forgiveness and healing to all.

Carryl Houselander (1901 – 1954) was an English Christian woman with a deep sense and experience of Christ at work in all people. She had a vision once, while travelling in a carriage on the London Underground. Learn more about her in the video.
